The State of the Peninsula is a new annual civic forum hosted by the Foster City Chamber, bringing together regional leaders, business stakeholders, and community partners for a focused discussion on the challenges and opportunities shaping the Peninsula's future.
This breakfast event offers attendees a unique opportunity to hear directly from public and private sector leaders as they share updates on key initiatives, discuss local and regional concerns, and explore paths for collaboration across city lines. Designed to inform, connect, and inspire, this gathering is a must-attend for anyone invested in the Peninsula’s long-term vitality.

Keynote Speaker, representing the County of San Mateo:
President of the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors
David J. Canepa
President David J. Canepa is a dedicated fourth-generation San Mateo County resident, deeply rooted in the community he serves. Raised in Pacifica and now residing in Daly City with his wife Ana and their young son David Piero, Canepa has built a life defined by service and advocacy. A former Daly City mayor, he currently serves as President of the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors in his third term. His leadership reflects a passionate commitment to fairness, equity and meeting the needs of the diverse communities he serves.
As a leader, Canepa prioritizes bold, forward-thinking initiatives to tackle the region’s most pressing challenges. His work focuses on improving public transportation, addressing the chronic housing shortage, promoting public health and safety and prioritizing investments for children, families and older adults.
Canepa serves on several regional boards and commissions including the Metropolitan Transportation Commission, SamTrans, the San Mateo Medical Center, the San Mateo Health Commission, the Behavioral Health Commission and the Commission on Aging among others.
Throughout his career in public service, Canepa has dedicated himself to five pillars of leadership: housing justice and affordability, public health and wellness for all, combating loneliness, climate resilience and environmental stewardship and economic mobility and empowerment.

Foster City Mayor
Stacy Jimenez
Stacy is a 20 year resident of Foster City and ran on a platform focused on building a civil and transparent city council that prioritizes community engagement. She believes in a moderate and comprehensive view when it comes to housing, is passionate about saving Foster City’s green spaces, and is focused on creating a sustainable and healthy environment for our small businesses.
As a long time resident, Stacy has had an opportunity to be involved in many aspects of civic life, having served in many capacities in several community organizations including the League of Women Voters, the American Legion Auxiliary, Foster City Toastmasters, AYSO, FCLL, and Foster City Elementary PTA, among others. She is a former vice-chair of the Parks and Recreations Citizens Advisory Community, and has served on the board of the San Mateo High School Music Boosters.
Stacy is a graduate of the University of California, Los Angeles, with a degree in Political Science and holds a Juris Doctorate from the University of San Francisco. She is an attorney and real estate investment manager. She and her husband Thaddeus are proud parents to three daughters.

Daly City Mayor
Dr.Roderick Daus-Magbual
Dr. Roderick ("Rod") Daus-Magbual is serving as the Mayor of Daly City, with a term running through November 2026 (dalycity.org). Born to an immigrant family from the Philippines via Canada, he grew up witnessing the resilience and dedication of his nurse mother and entrepreneurial father (roddausmagbual.com).
Dr. Daus-Magbual holds a BA in Liberal Studies
(UC Riverside, 2000), an MA in Asian American Studies (San Francisco State University, 2004), and an EdD from the University of San Francisco (USF, 2010). He is a tenured-track professor in Ethnic Studies at Skyline College and leads the Pin@y Educational Partnerships (pepsf.org), a nonprofit mentoring program for future educators (roddausmagbual.com).
His involvement in Daly City spans over two decades:
Library Commission (2014-2017), Planning Commission (2017-2018, Vice Chair in 2018), City Councilmember since 2018, Vice Mayor in 2021 and 2024, and Mayor in 2022 (roddausmagbual.com). He also serves on numerous regional bodies, including the Association of Bay Area Governments, Peninsula Clean Energy Board, and local Flood Control and Land-Use Committees (dalycity.org).
A husband and father of two, he resides in Daly City for over 20 years. His community priorities focus on housing, youth civic engagement, public safety, the environment, mental health, and COVID-19 recovery (dalycity.org).

Coastside Chamber CEO
Krystlyn Giedt
Krystlyn’s path to becoming the Chief Executive Optimist of the Coastside Chamber of Commerce is as dynamic as it is inspiring. She began her career in traditional photography, mastering the art of darkroom processing before evolving her passion into digital photo restoration. This creative foundation led her into graphic design and web development, where her knack for blending artistry with technology naturally progressed into marketing, event planning, and ultimately, chamber operations.
With a gift for leadership and a deep-rooted commitment to community engagement, Krystlyn took on the role of CEO of the Coastside Chamber in 2018—a position she considers the fulfillment of a lifelong dream. A proud Coastside resident, she’s also pursuing another passion project as cohost of Coastal Windage, a live radio show dedicated to local voices and issues.
Driven by innovation, optimism, and a desire to help others reach their potential, Krystlyn continues to shape the future of the Coastside through her work, creativity, and wholehearted community involvement.
